I’ve been a bit of a cranky pants this week. Bloody PMT, it puts me off kilter.
I wake with a sigh rather than a spring in my step.
My pouting hasn’t been helped by one of the kids returning from holidays with nits.
My ex bought nit shampoo at the chemist when they got back and applied it, but left the combing out to me because he didn’t have a nit comb …
So my first hour of parenting was spent hunched over a child’s head scraping the little bastards out.
Nits weren’t the only icky pest I’ve dealt with this week. Pantry moths have been fluttering in the eldest’s room and I’ve been driven mad searching for the foodstuff causing them.
The eldest kept assuring me there were no forgotten snacks lurking in her girl cave and the moths were just regular moths, chill mum.
(Someone won’t be chill if the “regular” moths eat holes in her My Chemical Romance t-shirt, I grumpily thought.)
Last night – retch – I spotted a weevil crawling across her ceiling and went postal on the place. Bugger personal privacy, push had come to shove. After scouring under the bed and through cupboards I finally found the culprit: a three-year-old game of chocolate UNO hidden among the other neatly stacked board games.
It was REVOLTING under that lid. I’m still shuddering at the memory.
I went back to work yesterday, so the kids have been back at their dad’s place until I pick them up tonight.
DD is down in Melbourne with his beloved brood for a mini-break, so I was all on my lonesome last night.
After eating leftovers for dinner, I took the dogs for a long walk in the nearby bush and felt my hormonal angst ebb away. It was so lovely to be strolling in that quiet, leafy peace.
I often worry that I get waaaaaaay too hyper and talk waaaaaay too much, so it’s good to know I can enjoy being silent now and then.
Oh, as for those leftovers, I had chorizo and avocado pasta (one of my kids’ all-time fave dinners), made with a bag of avocadoes Pinky Poinker gave me on my recent visit to Queensland.
Pinky’s dad owns an avocado farm so she’s rolling in them. Thank you Pinky dynasty for the produce!
Here’s the recipe (forgive the crappy pic, the actual dish is delish):
RECIPE: Chorizo and avocado pasta
1 onion & 2 cloves of garlic, minced
olive oil
2 chorizo sausages, chopped
1 cup of chicken stock
1 tub of Carnation cooking cream
2 avocadoes, diced
pasta, boiled and drained
parmesan
Dollop of sambal oelek if you like a bit of bite
METHOD: Saute the onion and garlic in the olive oil until soft, add the chorizo and saute until golden. Add chicken stock and simmer for 2 minutes. Add the cooking cream. Simmer 2 minutes. Toss through the pasta, then gently stir through the avocado. Serve with parmesan.
Song of the day: Everything But The Girl “Missing”
Oh yum! Glad you got them past border control đŸ˜‰
I love Everything But The Girl. This has sent me down a rabbit hole of music videos. Time wasting not permitted in 2017 I told myself only last week.
Oooops, sorry! Music videos ARE rather addictive.
