Thank you

Facebook is not my friend these days. It hasn’t been for a long time.

I suspect fewer and fewer people are looking at their feeds and even less are seeing HouseGoesHome in them.

But, fortunately, my faithful readers still seek me out.

Sometimes it takes a few days for them to find my latest musings and I worry that I’ve lost the plot.

But then I’ll receive a lovely message out of the blue, saying I’m someone’s favourite way to start the day.

As I’ve mentioned many, I think I’d find it hard to stop blogging after all these years.

So many years!

It was HouseGoesHome’s 15th anniversary in July. Wow, that’s a lot of posts.

What’s the grand plan? Does it matter if the algorithm hates me?

My boss announced this week that she’s boosting her social media presence across LinkedIn, Facebook and TikTok.

I don’t think I have the bandwidth for that.

I am content to write my daily posts, share them on Facebook and whatever will be will be.

The aim isn’t to grow or monetise. It’s to entertain. To make people feel that they are not alone. To remind them that there is someone else who does or says or feels the same weird things as they do.

Or not.

Our differences are what make humanity so wonderful. Well, they do when they are a force for good.

Writing HouseGoesHome is also soothing for my soul. It’s how I reset when I’m down or anxious. When my brain and body are in turmoil, I type the feelings out.

Thank you for finding me when Facebook’s algorithm shuts me out.

Thank you for reading my ramblings.

Thank you for letting me know you enjoy them every now and again. It’s good to know you’re still out there.

Oh, before I go, I should tell you what I did yesterday – I walked to work! It took me an hour and confirmed that my outrageously expensive Hermes stick deodorant isn’t up to the task of energetic activity.

On my way home I spotted my friend Nic in a pub, having a beer. I walked in, gave him a hug and demanded to know why I hadn’t heard back from his wife about the drink I’d suggested.

Apparently she’d emailed her confirmation to me on August 24. I didn’t receive it. Or I didn’t read my emails properly. I can be a bit scatty like that.

So I’m seeing her tonight.

Some social interaction will be good for me. I’ve been feeling a bit down over the past week and can’t work out why.

I don’t think it’s menopause. Surely that’s long over. But its a bit hard to know what life stage I’ve reached, due to my womb lining being razed all those years ago.

I’ve been a bit sweaty over the last few nights, as I toss and turn in bed. But that could just be climate change messing with the external temperature rather than my internal one.

Who knows? Onwards.

Song of the day: Andrew Gold “Thank you for being a friend”
