Preparing for disappointment

You might be wondering how my healthy eating plan is going after seeing the photo that illustrates today’s blog post.

Not so well.

Yesterday, Scotch Whisky distillery Benriach sent me two Scotch Cross Buns, two Lamington Hot Cross Buns, a Scotch Caramel Easter Lamington and some sort of cakey thing dipped in chocolate.

They’re the result of a collaboration between the distiller and cult-favourite bakery Tokyo Lamington and I thought I’d missed out on my chance to taste them.

I’d initially asked DD if he could take delivery of them because Tuesday is my day in the office. But DD has a made whirl of work travel in his diary this month and was in Melbourne.

So I gave them my address.

It was only after I was on the bus to work yesterday morning that I realised I wasn’t supposed to be on the bus. I was meant to be at home waiting for a Scotch Cross Bun delivery that needed to be signed for.

Dammit.

Ah, well, I figured my waistline would thank me for it (especially after I tried on a shirtdress I bought online that made me look like a French navy-coloured beached whale. will need to do my first-ever online shopping return tomorrow, it’s that bad … normally I just suck up poor online choices because returning process stresses me out).

I hoped they might just leave the delivery on the doorstep of my apartment block anyway, but I prepared myself for disappointment.

Then a few hours later I got a message from my neighbour Jenny to say she’d taken delivery of the treats for me.

Thank you Jenny!

To quote the media release that accompanied them, the Scotch Cross Buns are “layered with fruit infused with Benriach’s award-winning The Original Ten single malt Scotch whisky and finished with a smooth Scotch glaze – alongside the Scotch Caramel Easter Lamington, a rich chocolate sponge filled with a decadent whisky caramel centre inspired by the indulgent cocoa traditions of the season.”

Poor me!

I ate my first hot cross bun of the season last Sunday as my breakfast at a cafe, but I can’t remember the last time I bought myself cake. I always gaze at the displays in cake shops and wonder who possesses the metabolism that allows them to buy cake?

That’s not to say I don’t eat cake when it is waved under my nose at celebrations, I am powerless to resist in those circumstances.

Anyways, I tried the caramel Easter lamington last night – it was super rich, moist and luscious.

I would promise to start the diet next week instead, but that’s my birthday week and I have many food-related plans …

OK, gotta get up and out, I’m due at the State Library for a media launch at 8am.
