The long haul

I am fortunate to have many good souls in my life and I caught up with a few of them over the weekend.

Top lining my social engagements was a party to celebrate the 30th wedding anniversary of my dear friends Nic and Orsola.

Unlike me, Orsola still fits into her wedding dress and wore it to the party. Don’t worry, she’s not the frou-frou type – her wedding dress was a stylish cream knit number, which she wore with her original wedding shoes.

The playlist was the same one they had at their wedding too! And I tried my first-ever Pimms (Nic is English).

I met Orsola and Nic when I was living in New York with my ex, it must have been around 2008. Our kids went to the same preschool and our friendship continued when they moved to Sydney.

They welcomed DD with open arms when he entered my life. Sadly he couldn’t attend the party due to being on a boys’ weekend in Adelaide for AC/DC.

In other weekend news, I had lunch with the youngest in Coledale at a funky cafe called Earth Walker, where we shared a brisket sambo.

But we decided against a swim due to the winds and rough surf. That also saved me getting angsty over the recent incident up the coast where a poor woman lost her life to a shark.

(The main pic is the beach at the end of the street near our cafe lunch spot. Gorgeous! Maybe I should check out real estate prices around there?)

And I popped by The Whisky List’s Top Shelf Whisky Festival – which was pouring 300+ old & rare whiskies – to wish my friends Oliver, Scott and David a merry Christmas.

They are good people and very kind to me. They showed me around like I was a VIP and gave me recommendations on a couple of museum drams to try.

Bless them, they’re also serving wine now at events for non-whisky-drinking partners. This is a delicious Moenchberg Grand Cru 2019 that I tasted …

It’s hard being me.

It’s also hard being the people I talk to … I somehow found myself discussing small fluffy dogs with IBS with another one of my drinks industry friends who was at the event, the lovely Nicole.

Oh, I also plugged in my ALDI Christmas tree last night to light up my apartment. I can’t believe it’s the festive season already.

It’s going to be hectic.

PS Speaking of love, I was so disappointed by the vile remarks made on Anthony Albanese’s Facebook page and other pages that featured his wedding photos. Whatever your political persuasion, if you say ugly things online you have an ugly soul.

Apparently a lot of the disturbing comnents came from fake profiles and bots, which is a scary indication of the evil direction social media is taking.

Song of the day: Adele “Rolling in the deep”
