The umbilical cord that connects me to Domain.com.au informed me yesterday that an apartment in the building next to my office was open for inspection.
I thought to myself, why not?
I enticed my workmate May to join me for a tour and it was glorious – it’s never been lived in and has the most fabulous mod cons, including:
- European Oak flooring and Arabescato/Elba marble finishes throughout
- Premium kitchen appointed with Wolf, PITT, Miele, and Liebherr integrated appliances
- Open-plan living and dining framed by floor-to-ceiling glass, flowing seamlessly to a sunlit balcony with district views
- Tranquil bedroom retreat with plush carpet and bespoke built-in robes
- Luxurious bathroom with underfloor heating and elegant stone detailing
- Home automation, ducted air conditioning, video intercom, garbage shute and secure storage cage
- Plus the building has a wellness hub with heated pool, sauna, gym, an exclusive space for entertaining and private functions and concierge service.

So giddy!
As for the downsides … it faces west and was sweltering when we walked in (you’d need to permanently run air-con on summer) … there is no parking space … and it looks like about half the building is up for sale/resale … no idea why, seems odd.
Also, it’s the Sirius building, which has an unfortunate history.
The Sirius building was constructed in the 1970s and 1980s as public housing for residents displaced by redevelopment in The Rocks. In 2014, the NSW government announced plans to sell the building, which led to a passionate but unsuccessful campaign to save it. It’s long-term social housing tenants were ousted, which was deeply distressing for many of them.
So I think it would be a bit guilt-trippy living there. Aside from that it would be the most gorgeous city pad.
I am so itchy to move.
I have no idea why I find it so hard to settle anywhere and constantly on the hunt for the next real estate purchase.
It’s a hopeless addiction, but I really need to curb my wanderlust.
Anyways, it was fun being taken on a tour of how the other half lives.
Now to deal with the desperate real estate agent who is eager to “make the best deal” for me.
Have a fab weekend. I am not looking forward to being DD-less while he’s on a boys’ weekend in Adelaide.
