Bold new chapter

I was lucky enough to be invited to celebrate a “bold new chapter” for Archie Rose Distilling Co last night.

Although, I was a bit PTSD about the public transport commute to Rosebery after my misadventure getting to Rose Bay on Tuesday.

When you look up public transport options to Rosebery it gives you the most confusing list of instructions. But I eventually worked it out (with help from my sister): a bus to the city, another bus from Martin Place and a 300 metre walk.

As the weather turned wild and crazy around lunchtime with a massive thunderstorm and the sound of ambulances whizzing past my apartment block, I got a little nervous about that walk.

But the skies cleared and I was excited to be among the first to experience the revitalised Archie Rose Still Room, a reinvention of its original distillery to become a tasting room, bar and cellar door.

My sister joined me for an evening hosted by Master Distiller Dave Withers, complete with drinks, canapés and a first look at the next chapter in the Archie Rose story.

An amazing business called Sydney Oyster Girls was shucking the most glorious Merimbula oysters on demand throughout the night. We ate a gazillion.

And I have a new fave cocktail – the Revolver – with Archie Rose Single Malt Whisky, White Possum Coffee Liqueur and orange oils. Next level delicious.

That said, the Peachfuzz was also pretty awesome – it featured Archie Rose Signature Dry Gin, Scylla peach, cacao and citrus.

Nom, nom.

I forgot to take selfies of people, just cockails, sorry.

I treated us to an Uber home.

It was a bulk fun night. I thoroughly recommend a visit. Rosebery has evolved into a very cool neighbourhood.

PS The apartment downstairs from me is going to auction so I had a stickybeak before the storm. No styling, no zjooshing, looked very rental-tired. Will be interested to see what it sells for.
