Wow factor

If you’re looking for a wow-factor spot to sip cocktails in Sydney, you’d be hard-pressed to beat Aster Bar.

Located on Level 32 of the InterContinental Sydney, Aster boasts incredible views of Sydney Harbour. And I got to experience them, along with the bar’s new signature menu on Friday night!

I took along my friend Shae as we were overdue for a catch up and I’d cancelled our last one.

I really need to get better at texting because I’m confusing people A LOT lately – she thought I’d said she’d have to pay for her cocktail, so she was thrilled to discover it was on the house thanks to Drinks Digest.

I booked for 7pm so we could gaze at the harbour by day, then be delighted by the lights at night.

I tried the Golden Pearl with Cocchi Rosa, St. Germain, Grape Rhubarb, Champagne Solution and Nori Leaf ($32).

I was a little taken aback by the price tag, but the cocktail was very elaborate. It came with an oyster shell bowl filled with little jelly balls floating in a puddle of Champagne, with smoke bubbles on top. I was instructed by the waiter to slurp the pearls like an oyster.

Shae ordered the Wave, with Altamura Vodka, Samphire, Pear, Verjuice and Bay Leaf ($32). It came in a glass seashell with a garnish of foam on a stick.

We were very dazzled by the view and our spectacular drinks. Sydney Harbour is a very special place.

We also forked out for a Prawn Katsu Sando with Curry Mayo and Cabbage ($30 each, gulp!) and Salt and Vinegar Skin on Fries with Aioli ($18). Ouch on our wallets but yummy.

So if you’re looking to splash out on an unforgettable night, I reckon Aster is the perfect place to do it.

But I’d recommend booking a table as it gets super busy with people who are unfazed by spending $32 on a cocktail.

The rest of my weekend was pretty low key and chilled out, lots of walks (that’s just one of the spectacular views above), lots of grocery shopping for my new low-disaccharide diet and lots of avoidance of cleaning …

Hope you had a good one too.
