I am not enjoying the new three-days-a-week-in-the-office mandate at my workplace.

It involves personal grooming and dressing in nice clothes, walking halfway to the bus stop and realising I don’t have my security pass and returning home to get it, then walking to the bus stop and realising I’ve left my wallet at home and walking back home again to get it, then listening to the dogs howling with separation anxiety from three floors up as I walk back up the road, then waiting in a bus queue for 500 years, then jamming myself onto a standing-room-only bus while it jerks its way down the road, throws me around and jolts my dodgy hip and spine, then trudging to the office, doing my hours, heading to the supermarket to buy a pre-made curried sausage dinner for one, then walking to the bus stop to join a 200-person queue, bracing myself during another jolting journey, trudging home and mopping up dog wee in the living room because I’ve been gone too long.

That was yesterday. Bulk fun.

OK, there were some upsides, like finding a bag of Easter treats on my desk (presumably from one of my bosses), gasbagging with my colleagues, the social club selling Easter buns and a free flu shot clinic on the ground floor.

Although, unfathomably, I bared my writing and sleeping side to the nurse for my jab.

On balance, I’d rather be at home, which is where I’m fortunately staying today.

I get that it’s great to be in the office collaborating with your colleagues, especially when you’re first starting out, but I really don’t need to do it three days a week.

I’m more productive at home and the dogs are much happier.

Do you like working in the office or are you a homebody like me?
