Such a headache

My head was aching as I walked to the bus stop after work last night. My job is very mentally intense and I was out of practice after my holiday.

Returning to work on a Tuesday meant I was running a day late on compiling my weekly newsletter, which is called ‘Insights’ and is aimed at business and government representatives working in the visitor economy (which is a fancy way of saying “tourism”).

There were also two media releases to write and three meetings to attend, there was advice to be given, many cats to herd and a gazillion emails to catch up on.

I also lost a precious half an hour at the start of the day because I couldn’t remember my laptop password. I called the service desk, where a nice woman said she couldn’t help me until I gave her my employee number, which is listed alongside my pay every fortnight in my banking app.

I couldn’t remember the password to access that either, so I had to apologise, hang up and work it out.

Hopeless.

There was also a healthy eating regime to commence, which was tricky with an empty, post-holiday fridge. So I compromised by eating three water crackers with cheese for breakfast at 10am and ducking out to grab two sushi rolls at lunchtime (turn away from the tempura prawn roll, Alana!).

I was running late to let the dogs out after work due to last-minute corrections to a media release, so I dashed into Woolies and grabbed what I expect will become a pretty regular dinner for me, a bag of stir-fry veggies, a packet of beef stir-fry strips and some brown rice.

I made the mistake of reading the news headlines on the bus, so much horror, so little joy.

My day ended feeling terribly guilty about being able to go on holidays when so many people can’t, let alone the ones living every day in fear.

And now it’s Wednesday, rinse and repeat … I was looking forward to working from home today, but realised as I was trying desperately to get to sleep at 11.30pm that I’m supposed to be at a conference in the city today. Eeeeek!

But there might be a bit of fun in the evening. Will advise …
