It’s ironic that I have better contact with my kids now they don’t live with me than when they did.
When I was watching Bridget Jones at the movies on Friday night my phone started vibrating. I surreptitiously checked it (because my phone virtually never rings) and it was the eldest calling.
I immediately thought something was wrong, texted to explain where I was and said I’d call as soon as the movie ended.
It turned out the eldest was just ringing for a chat!
I don’t recall the eldest ever just ringing me for a chat, so it was a cruel blow to miss it.
But we managed to catch each other for a natter on Saturday night.

It was the eldest’s first day of O Week yesterday and I was sent a few photos and a message to let me know how it had gone.
I have no idea what’s happening in the blow-up duck photo, but it looks like fun.

The youngest also sent me a photo yesterday of sea glass she’d collected with her boyfriend on a South Coasr beach because she knows I have a thing for sea glass.
She’s also coming over for dinner later in the week.
It’s softening the blow of being an empty nester, as is a photo frame the eldest gave me for Christmas.
It’s digital and the kids both have an app on their phones that allows them to send photos to the frame.
It’s a thrill when messages come up on the frame to say new photos have arrived.
I’m thinking about getting frames for the kids too so we can share the photo love around.
Brave new world.
