Better be home soon

I started writing this blog post at 10.30pm last night at the bus stop after taking my sister to see Crowded House as her birthday present.

The endless roadwork on the freeway meant it was a VERY long bus ride. Better be home soon …

We had a bulk fun night, but it was very cruel to make thousands of middle-aged people sit on the Sydney Opera House steps.

When everyone stood up for the encore we were surrounded by people groaning and clutching their backs.

Sitting on the pebblecrete was a killer. I had to change positions every few minutes to rotate the pain to different parts of my body and alleviate it ever so slightly.

But all was forgiven when the audience erupted into a sing-a-long for “Better be home soon”, with Neil confessing beforehand that he couldn’t wait to hear us.

It must feel incredible as a performer to be on stage and hear the crowd’s voices rise in unison.

While the steps of the Opera House were a cruel mistress, seeing Crowded House play with a backdrop of the city was pretty magical.

I was also transfixed by Neil’s sons performing in the band – Liam plays guitar, while Elroy plays drums.

My sister and I both agreed that Liam is hawt. And it’s not entirely age inappropriate for us to drool as he’s 41.

Blimey the years race by.

He has echoes of Neil in his features, but a wilder edge. He sings like an angel and is devilishly good with a guitar.

Mmmmmm … I have followed him on Instagram. He might be my new hall pass.

Getting home was a bit of a weary slog and I was too wired when I finally got to bed to sleep.

But I’m backing up today for a very big one. Lots of work and lots of play, all wrapped up together.
