I can’t quite believe I’m saying this, but I am thinking about booking ANOTHER cruise.
The idea has been sparked by the Black Friday sales that are bombarding my inbox. And because I am being forced to take leave over Christmas and New Year due to an office shutdown.
It pains me to squander all that leave on sitting around the house, so I started idly checking out Black Friday deals and Googling Christmas cruises and one came up that leaves on Boxing Day.
Plus there’s a big, juicy flight credit thrown in.
At first I was a little uncertain about throwing away even more money on adventures on the high seas, but the idea is growing on me.
We don’t know anyone who loves cruising as much as us, so we’ll be spending New Year’s Eve with 70 strangers if we go.
I do like the idea of perching on one of those bar seats in the pic above, sipping a cocktail at sunset …
As for Black Friday taking off in Australia, it must be infuriating the Halloween haters that it’s become our biggest shopping event of the year.
Five years ago most Aussies hadn’t even heard of it.
The concept originated in the US and refers to sales that take place the day after Thanksgiving. It marks the start of the Christmas shopping season for Americans and, like Australia’s Boxing Day sales, creates large scale hysteria in malls across the US.
It gained momentum over there because malls were the only things open on the Friday after Thanksgiving, when people had been cooped up inside during the holiday and were desperate for entertainment.
This year Australian shoppers are set to spend a record $6.7 billion during the four-day sale period, an increase of 5.5% compared to the same time last year.
Blimey! And I might be joining the frenzy.
Will advise.
Have you bought anything in the Black Friday sales?
