You know all that whining I did yesterday about not wanting to go out?
Well I had a bloody awesome time.
So I need to shut up.
I’ve been to Maybe Sammy a few times for events, but last night I got the full experience of sitting at the bar watching the team in action and it was amazing.
No wonder the bar has received so many awards – it has a focus on making every night really special for its customers.
It really is the whole package: theatrical bartenders, fabulous drinks, delicious food …
Maybe Sammy comes in at No.25 on the World’s 50 Best Bars list.
This is what the judges had to say: “Year after year, Sydneysiders and out-of-towners alike have been making the pilgrimage to Maybe Sammy, a hotel bar-inspired drinkery from owners Stefano Catino and Vince Lombardo.
“A stalwart of The World’s 50 Best Bars list, Maybe Sammy has remained the city’s most talked-about bar since it opened in early 2019, lighting up a dreary stretch of street in Sydney’s sandstone district, The Rocks.
“Patrons come for a smartly packaged combination of theatrics and attentive, fun service that seeks to add a spark in one’s evening. And, of course, the bartenders donning those signature pastel pink jackets deliver delicious drinks with every pour.
“Maybe Sammy has always set the bar high for its cocktails, but somehow manages to step up with each successive drinks menu. It’s that special kind of bar which, when you leave, it’s after having had your night made better, and with a story to tell your friends the next day.”
I can concur. It’s an epic venue, 10 out of 10 can recommend.
I was there for this guest bartender ..

And this was the special menu …

Confession: I sampled them all as a guest of Nardini …
My favourite, unexpectedly, was the martini. I am not normally a martini fan, but this one was deee-licious.

Mind you, the other three cocktails weren’t too shabby …

As for the food, yummmm.

We tried the Mini Lobster Roll on brioche with spicy mayo and chives; the Kingfish Tartare with goat curd, lemon gel, kombu dressing, pickled qukes and green oil; the Charcuterie plate with homemade pickles; and a mystery potato scallop thingie.
So. Good.
Meanwhile the bartenders donned various crazy hats, blew bubbles, cheered when friends walked into the bar, climbed onto the back bar to pour drinks from great heights and generally had the time of their lives while ensuring the patrons did too.

I was there with Rojo Consulting and the Wog with the Grog, who handle the brand in Australia.

I’ve known Josie from Rojo since our mummy blogging days and we always enjoy catching up.
As for Nardini, its Grappa is considered to be the first grappa of Italy. It was created by a bloke called Bortolo Nardini, who established the Nardini distillery in Bassano del Grappa, Italy in 1779. I had a sip of its Tagliatella liqueur, which was quite delicious.
Anyways, put Maybe Sammy on your bucket list, I guarantee you’ll have bulk fun.
I also promise to stay home and take it easy tonight.
Have a great weekend. Catch you next week.
