Still feeling despondent about the election results, I was eager to retreat last night into a fantasy world filled with pretty things and gin.
I had been invited to an immersive installation by Edinburgh Gin and Sydney-based artist Claire Mueller, creator of the ACID.FLWRS concept.
The event was being held in Darlinghurst, so I caught a bus into the city after work.
The weather echoed my mood – grey skies and drizzle … and then …
Halfway across the Sydney Harbour Bridge there was a loud bang, the bus started making very strange noises, a loud warning buzzer went off and I thought this doesn’t sound good.
One of the tyres on the bus had exploded, so the driver had to pull over in the middle of no man’s land and decide what to do.
Eventually we were piled onto another bus and arrived safely at Wynyard Station.
I was running very late and made the ill-considered decision to catch a random eastern suburbs bus that dropped me off 18 minutes from the venue.
I was very sweaty and flustered when I finally arrived at the gallery to meet my friend Shae.
So I made a beeline for the bar to order myself a nice, icy gin cocktail …
After I apologised 50 times for being late, we enjoyed a sneak preview of the installation ahead of it opening at Rainbow Studios from November 8-9.
The event blended gorgeous floral artistry with Edinburgh Gin cocktails. Very Insta-worthy!
The gallery was filled with striking floral displays and an installation using mirrors and iridescent surfaces that delighted all the influencers in attendance.
We sipped on cocktails including the Classic Gin Perfect Serve, the Rhubarb & Ginger Gin Rhubarb Collins and the Watermelon & Lime Gin Punch and had a lovely natter.
Then I headed home to face the reality of Rome still burning … and all the gin in the world couldn’t stop me feeling sad again.

ah yes, the election…..I was flipping through two new channels and an app all day Tuesday, finally went to bed and rechecked the app throughout the night….
I don’t even think Trump knows what to do…the Republicans have the Senate, House, Supreme Court and the Presidency…so much for the American way of checks and balances. Oh well, both the senate and the house have elections again in two years….they’ll go by fast, and as they say, this too shall pass….fingers crossed
