Can you believe this year marks the 30th anniversary of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
Wow! 30 years! How can that be? It blows my mind that the decades have passed so damn quickly.
Priscilla – just in case you’ve been living under a rock – follows the road-tripping adventures of two drag queens and a transgender woman, played by Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce and Terence Stamp, as they drive a rickety old bus from Sydney to perform in Alice Springs.
My sister and I adore the movie, so when I received an invitation to a special anniversary screening I literally squealed with excitement … and immediately forwarded the invite to her.
She took a few hours to get back to me, but I already knew what her answer would be – YES!
The invite was from STOLI Vodka, which is partnering with Golden Age Cinema and Bar to celebrate the anniversary of the iconic film.
Little did I realise until I watched the movie again what a prominent role Stoli plays in it. The bus’ mini bar is chockers with bottles.
The film’s limited season at Golden Age’s Martini and Movie Mondays will feature bespoke martinis, weekly screenings of the beloved movie and a vibrant atmosphere that pays homage to the film’s vivacious spirit on 16, 23 & 30 September (learn more here).
Lucky us getting the VIP experience, which kicked off with an opportunity to pose with these gorgeous creatures …

We enjoyed martinis and canapes in the Golden Age bar while another drag queen DJ spun a few tunes. Then we headed into the cinema with our choc tops for a fabulous blast-from-the-past screening.

Thank you to my sister’s friend Matt for loaning us our awesome caps. We sent him a selfie of us wearing them and he replied …

Our last Priscilla adventure together was waaay back in 2018 when we saw Priscilla the Musical live on stage. My ex got me four tickets for Mother’s Day, so I took the kids and my sis.
The Capitol Theatre is another gorgeous venue – so over-the-top and old-worldy.
The youngest was crook as Rookwood with a bad cold that night and so not thrilled to be perched on a stool in the foyer, watching my sister sip a pre-theatre daiquiri.

I got a lecture from her on how inappropriate it was to photograph a minor with alcohol.
It’s a bit off putting when the 12-year-old is the grown-up.
Look at that poor, sick little face!
(The only complaint from her these days would be “where’s MY daiquiri???”)
Fast forward eight years and my sister and I had the most fabulous night watching Priscilla again, we laughed, we sang and we walked out on such a high.

Terence Stamp as an emu is still my favourite. So deadpan hilarious.
Ten out of ten. Bulk fun night.
And now it’s Tuesday. Yawn. Sleep when I’m dead and all that.
Song of the day: CeCe Peniston “Finally”
