It was ironic to read a comment on my blog last night about me being a prolific writer when I was suffering from writer’s block.
I was totally bereft of ideas, still a little weary from my quickie getaway to GlomCon and weighed down by the endless tasks on my to-do list.
I had no idea what I would blog about today, so I find myself writing about having too much to write about and nothing to say.
There is my full-time job as a digital corporate communications manager that now includes editorial director duties for the annual report. I’ve come up with an ambitious plan to completely overhaul the content, which means writing and editing reams of stuff.
I also found out yesterday that I am giving a presentation today to the division on how the new corporate website, which I launched earlier this year, is progressing. Frantic bullet points were thrown together late in the day.
There is also a weekly newsletter to compile and two media releases to finish.
When the day job ends there is never-ending Drinks Digest news writing to be done and a book to be finished, while a former client has begged for help with their website and LinkedIn profile. I’ve told them I’m booked up for the rest of the week, so that will be a weekend job.
I should have said no, but I’m a soft touch for a distress call.
“Booked up” is code for “out for the next two nights being a booze news writer”.
Tonight I’m off to a cruise event at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, tomorrow I have a pub relaunch and a fancy hotel’s new cocktail menu to sample.
It sounds like fun – and it will be – but it’s also work.
I know my regular readers wonder why I do it. I often ask myself the same thing and contemplate whether to stop.
But I have built these things up and I feel compelled to keep the machinery running. Life moves in mysterious ways and I feel mine is still deciding on its mid-life path. In the meantime I will keep all the balls in the air.
Time get up and start juggling …
Song of the day: Dire Straits “Money for nothing”
I watched an interview with the band’s founder Mark Knopfler, where he explained that the song lyrics were inspired by a conversation he overheard between workers in a store as they were watching all the TV screens which just happened to be tuned to MTV.
