I could get used to this

It is crazy gorgeous here … it’s Disney-style manufactured beauty, but still stunning.

And I’ve decided there’s something to be said for being the plus one on business trips.

My first day as a lady of leisure was lovely.

DD was out the door at 7am to hobnob with the movers and shakers in glomerular diseases, while I lazed around in bed until 9am.

Then I relaxed on the lanai/balcony for a few hours and was delighted by a turtle popping his head out of the ornamental pond next door to check me out.

DD was a little chilly at the conference, so I dropped off his sweater and stole a pecan scroll from the Glom Con morning tea table before popping down to the beach for a dip.

I love how many warnings Americans need to give to avoid being sued. One of the safest beaches I’ve ever swum at.

I had a leisurely shower then wandered up to the shopping centre, where I scored a forest green velvet suit jacket at Banana Republic for $US56, which was still a bargain when converted to Australian dollars.

Then I ambled down to a beachside bar for an astronomically expensive poke bowl, where the waitress tipped me off that I could get a reasonably priced one at a grocery store nearby. That’s my lunches for the next three days sorted!

Then it was back to the hotel for a few chill-out hours while I waited for DD to wrap up his conference duties for the day.

At 6pm we swanned down to the lawn for the GlomCon welcome reception.

I promised not to tell outrageous stories about being a judge at Miss Nude Australia and things went swimmingly. I suggested to one of the organisers that Singapore would be a good destination for the next GlomCon and she loved the idea. DD is very excited because he loves Singaporean satay skewers.

There was an open bar and a parade of food, ranging from mini poke bowls to mini beef wellingtons and quesadillas.

We enjoyed another stunning Maui sunset before adjourning to our room with cocktails to watch the Olympic diving finals.

Wailea might be a manufactured paradise, but it is very beautiful.
