Cutting edge

As predicted, scalpels were out yesterday during my appointment at the skin specialist. He said the thing on my back wasn’t dangerous at the moment but might become dangerous in the future.

It sounded a bit tenuous to me, but I could tell by the freshly prepped examination table that he was raring to go. So I sighed and resigned myself to more needles.

I am a little worried about my memory because my mother reckons I had a malignant melanoma on my arm as a 16 year old. It was removed and I had skin checks for years afterwards. I remember having a skin cancer cut out of my arm, but have absolutely no recollection of the rest. I regaled the skin doctor who agreed it was quite unusual to have a melanoma so young … and said it was all the more reason to take out the dodgy looking thing on my back … I made my own bed with that one.

I am very not good with sharp things cutting skin and needles stitching it back up again. I also made the mistake of clocking my piece of flesh in the specimen jar on the receptionist’s desk, so the whole experience haunted me for the rest of the day.

I couldn’t stop thinking about it and it kept making me want to theatrically (but not really) retch, complete with sticking out my tongue and making fake gagging noises.

I also had that weird sensation that courses through your body when you’re on a roller coaster. Not an adrenaline rush, a kind of weird ache-buzz feeling. Or is that just me?

Anyhoo, I am hoping that is me done with doctors for a while … oh, I forgot, I need to have the stitches out next week. Blah. Then I hope I am done for a while.

Well, apart from the fact I need an eye test because my shortsightedness is escalating. Middle age is such a blast.

On the other side of the world, DD had an awesome first day in London. He enjoyed a roast dinner for his lunch and scored cheap tickets to Back To The Future The Musical … which I did not know was an actual thing. Then he had a Popcorn Old Fashioned as a nightcap.

Here are a few happy snaps …

OK, I’m a bit knackered after only having my right side to sleep on, so I’m going to slouch off. Catch you tomorrow.

Song of the day: Gloria Esteban “Cuts both ways”
