Making the most of it

The weather was so glorious over the weekend in Sydney – I hope it was around your way too.

It fascinates me to feel and see the seasons change. The intense light of summer has gone and the air is getting crisp in the mornings, but the sky is vividly blue and ocean is still warm.

I was determined to make the most of the beauty after a blah Friday.

The blahness involved Earworx saying they couldn’t fix my ear because my ear drum is affected and its too dangerous to poke at it. So I am putting fizzy peroxide into my ear twice a day for the next five days. I was really counting on getting the deafness fixed and the ringing removed to brighten the week.

So I felt very glum after paying my $150 fee and limping to the office.

In the afternoon I went to DD’s physiotherapist who took one look at my MRI results and said it wasn’t safe for him to touch me either.

He gave me some light exercises to do, suggested I cut back on walking and told me to bend down as little as possible. Then he texted his friend who is an orthopedic surgeon and asked if he could fit me in for a consultation.

I shopped my feelings afterwards and bought a silver handbag. Then everything that happened after that was very nice – aside from the twice-daily peroxiding.

Well, Saturday was a bit crazy and over-scheduled. I left the dogs with DD and drove to Newcastle to see my parents from 9.45-10.45am, then met a former workmate for coffee from 11-11.45am, then picked up my mum and took her for a birthday high tea at QT Newcastle, which she LOVED.

QT has launched a new experience called QTea featuring creations by Cakeboi and Ketel Iced Tea cocktails.

Executive Chef Shayne Mansfield has welcomed dessert king Reece Hignell of Cakeboi into the kitchen to collaborate on the activation.

Served in Jana restaurant, the two-course feast kicks off with QTea’s signature Ketel One-infused Iced Tea cocktail, followed by a mix of sweet and savoury dishes. We worked our way through delicacies including charcoal bread smoked salmon fingers, duck leg croquettes, merguez sausage pies, honey cake and battenburg cake, before admitted defeat and asking for a doggie bag for the Victoria strawberry sponge.

Then we popped in to see a couple of my high school friends, then I dropped mum home and headed back to Sydney to see Ed Kuepper in concert at Avalon RSL.

Ed is one of those incredibly talented Aussie musos who deserved to be muuuuuuuuuuuch bigger around the globe.

If you haven’t listened to his album Honey Steels Gold I really recommend giving it a spin, it is incredible. I’ve included one of my favourite tracks below as the song of the day.

The weather on Sunday morning was stunning so, after reading the Sunday papers on the couch, we pootled up to a new place called The Joey at Palm Beach for brekkie with the most fabulous view.

As lifeguard season was drawing to a close, we also had one last swim between the flags. I adored bobbing in the waves.

Then I drove home for lunch on a friend’s verandah with lovely water views. Such a soothing day.

Today, on the other hand, will not be soothing. It will be spent sorting out referrals, cancelling cortisone injections, booking x-rays etc.

Of course, as is always the way, now the problem has been escalated to a specialist, the pain has subsided. So I am terrified I am being a hypochondriac. I keep telling myself the scans don’t lie.

OK, I’d better get on with it.

Song of the day: Ed Kuepper “The way I made you feel”
