I went to the launch of the alc-eze Hangover-Free Pop-up Bar last night with my friend Claudia, who I haven’t seen forever.
She’s just been to the Pilbara to celebrate her birthday and her happy snaps are INCREDIBLE. She said I must go.
Here’s an example:

And look at the sky …

Wow. Just wow.
Anyhoo, the pop-up bar was to celebrate the launch of the alc-eze 3 and 6-pack anti-hangover supplements, which feature nashi pear extract.
We had a fascinating chat with a nice bloke called Anthony Taylor who created the product with friend and pharmacist Rohit Uppal.
It’s made from 18 different ingredients that are traditionally used in Western herbal medicine to maintain/support natural liver cleansing/detoxification processes. Its hero ingredient is Nashi pear, also known as a Korean or Asian pear, which is widely touted as preventing hangovers in Eastern medicine.

The brand has renamed Nocturne in Surry Hills The alc-eze Bar for the week and is promising people their money back on cocktails if they have a headache the next morning.
Because it is on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods we had to put a coin into a gum ball machine to get the pills … I’m a bit hazy on the explanation they gave us for that.

We gamely swallowed the recommended dose of three large alc-eze tablets and launched ourselves into the cocktail list to put them to the test. (That’s me down the back talking to one of the founders.)

Conversation was slightly challenged by the fact I am hopelessly deaf at the moment, but we managed by shouting WHAT DID YOU SAY a lot and had loads of fun chitter chattering.

Earlier in the day I had way less fun when I had two MRIs. I was outraged to learn that my sacrum was not being scanned because the GP had only asked for my spine and hip to be done.
This was unsettling news because it was costing me $700 – with no public or private rebate – to get it done. And I was convinced my sacrum was the problem.
The scanning bloke said that because I was short my sacrum would probably get a look in, so I sighed and went with it.
A very long and uncomfortable 45 minutes were spent lying still inside that machine.
After the scan he took pity on me and said the doctor had requested the right scan because he had FOUND SOMETHING.
But he couldn’t tell me what he’d found because it’s against the rules so I have to wait until at least next Tuesday to find out why my body hurts so much and the suspense is killing me.
I am pretty sure whatever it is isn’t going to kill me because he seemed fairly upbeat about what he’d discovered.
I will keep you in the loop.
In the meantime, have a fabulous weekend and I will catch you on the other side.
PS I can’t definitively tell you whether the pills work. I’ve woken with a headache, but I think it’s because my sleep is so fractured lately by the pain in my hip and my blocked ear.
Song of the day: Pink “Just like a pill”
