Such a pain

I am heading to the doctor on Friday to beg for an MRI.

My hip is giving me hell. It has been bothering me for years now and it’s doing my head in. I’ve tried a new mattress, endless new pillows, foot rests at the computer, alignment harnesses, working standing up, working sitting on stools …

I’ve already had an ultrasound and an X-ray, which showed absolutely nothing. I was told to focus on exercise and try physio.

Physio and the associated exercises and tips I was given have not alleviated the pain. Instead it is getting worse, radiating from my sacrum, through my hip joint and down to the ball of my little toe, which is making walking uncomfortable.

Blaaaaaah.

While I wait for my appointment, I have been consulting with Dr Google, who seems to think my S 1, 2 or 3 nerves might be to blame.

Further discussions with Dr Google also suggest the nerves might be getting a bit annoyed by Freddie the Fibroid pressing on them. Freddie is the size of a mango and has calcified, which can cause issues.

However, Dr Google is very, very careful to say he can’t promise a hysterectomy will solve the problem. It might help.

As my regular blog followers know I have been dancing around getting Freddie removed for many years. I am very not keen on having major surgery. Freddie is so big that getting him out will require the equivalent of a caesarean.

I do not want to have a third caesarean.

I also do not want to decide which bits of myself I should get removed during a hysterectomy. Just the uterus? Also the cervix?

What about the fallopian tubes and the ovaries? And what are the downsides to removing them (there can be significant ones).

But I also don’t want to be in this much discomfort while trying to sleep, sit down, get in a car, walk or tie my shoelaces.

It is a big, fat pain.

Speaking of fat … I am not looking forward to seeing the doctor as I was supposed to have gone on the Mediterranean Diet over the last three months and lost weight to avoid the risk of pre-diabetes.

I have not gone on the Mediterranean Diet. I have not lost weight.

She will be unhappy with me.

I tried to side-step her displeasure by going online and booking an appointment with another GP at the surgery, the one who kindly treated the youngest last year, but he has closed his books to new patients.

So my booking was rejected.

I would have technically thought I wasn’t a new patient as I have seen him numerous times in the past 12 months while accompanying my concussed daughter.

However, arguing the point would have required actually calling the surgery and I hate phone calls, so I’ve chosen the diet doctor’s ire as the lesser of the evils.

Wish me luck.

OK, it’s time for me to get up and try and put my dog walking clothes on. Ooooouch …

  1. seeing an GP here is a challenge..so many have cut back on their practices….I had a great MD that understood me, and never told me at any point to stop running, and then he made a major change to his practice, I was dropped because of something….but good luck, I have used WebMD a few times, it usually just says I may be expecting

  2. Give Dr Google the flick. It causes more harm than good. And bite the bullet. Get the fibroid removed. Forwards, not backwards.
