I am writing this blog post from DD’s place, where I am enjoying a micro working holiday.
He’s gone away on a business trip, so I’m taking his mum to a medical appointment today and I figured I might as well make a getaway out of it.
I bundled up the dogs and arrived at his place on Sunday afternoon. We sipped a glass of prosecco on his deck while we read the travel sections of the weekend papers.
Then we wandered down to the local bar, Mrs Robertson, where there was live music and the dogs and I made a few new friends.
We followed that with a visit to a local Mexican restaurant I’ve had my eye on called Nopales. We sat at an outdoor table, sipped Margaritas and snacked on guacamole and prawn tostadas.

Then we wandered back home again and watched a couple of episodes of Richard Roxburgh’s new TV series Prosper. DD said Richard, who happens to live around this way, can be my hall pass. Watch out Rich!

It was a very nice way to spend a Sunday.
On Monday morning I walked the dogs down to The Woods coffee shop for a couple of strong flat whites, then kicked off my working day from DD’s dining table.
I made him a toastie for lunch before he headed off to the airport. It was very domestic!
After work I nipped to Bilgola Beach for a swim before the flags went down. The surf was still pretty rough but I had a nice paddle in the shallows.
Then I popped to our fave suburban Chinese takeaway – Han Court in Avalon – and ordered a Mongolian Combination, stir-fried vegetables and steamed rice for my dinner, then scooted into the chemist to pick up a couple of things while I waited.
As I stood outside the restaurant, a friend of DD’s wandered past and we had a chat.

Then I ate my dinner on the deck in the balmy evening air and basked in how good life felt in that moment, though it would have felt even better if DD was with me and not on a plane!
And this morning I watched the sunrise on Avalon headland …

I was too busy yesterday talking about not liking mornings to tell you about my weekend, but the past few days have done their best to alleviate my rollercoaster mood.
As DD often notes – the only way out is through.
