My life has been going at one speed since Thursday: full throttle.
As per usual.
I spent two hours on public transport on Thursday night travelling from DD’s place (where I had stayed the previous night because I had a physio appointment around his way) to the launch of Altos Tequila’s Mexican Wave at Hotel Ravesis in Bondi. I flung myself off the bus at my place for 10 minutes to let the dogs out for a wee and put on some party clothes then resumed the odyssey.
I met my friend Sue there and we sipped Margaritas surrounded by the “in” crowd as we looked out over Bondi Beach and I took photos for Drinks Digest Instagram stories.

It was very fun. Then I treated myself to a cab home.
Friday was the usual mad scramble to publish the weekly newsletter I produce for Destination NSW. Friday night was spent grabbing groceries and cooking a batch of spag bol for the kids.
On Saturday morning the youngest and I collected my sister and drove up to Newcastle to take my mum out as a belated Christmas present – I’d promised her cocktails at QT Newcastle’s Rooftop Bar.

The gift was a big hit. We kicked off with spritzes, then moved on to Lovedale Smashes and finished up with Espresso Martinis.

We also ate bar snacks including pork gyozas, corn ribs and katsu curry fries. Very yum.

The view at the QT Rooftop is spectacular and everyone had a lovely time, then the youngest drove us all home as she doesn’t turn 18 until next month so she still comes in very handy as a designated driver.
I needed to be back in Sydney for a 7pm screening of Blade Runner with a live orchestra at ICC Sydney.

Blade Runner is widely regarded as one of the most important and best sci-fi films ever made and I had forgotten how spectacular the director’s cut is. The special effects, even by today’s standards, are absolutely stunning, and I would say 90% of the film stands up as being not the least bit dated.
Harrison Ford and the rest of the cast are fabulous, while Ridley Scott’s vision of the future is both depressing and scarily on target.
I loved the film, but found the second half way too violent, which meant I was so wired I couldn’t sleep when I got home … or maybe that was the espresso martini.
As for the whole live orchestra bit, it didn’t add much for me. I was so gobsmacked by the movie that I wasn’t paying any attention to the music.
I was feeling pretty bleary when the youngest dragged me to IKEA at 9am on Sunday morning … accidentally an hour before it opened … in the blistering heat …
We were there to buy stuff for her room at uni, as she heads off today to do a chemistry bridging course.
Then we went to a homemaker centre in search of flannelette sheets as she has an obsession with sleeping on them, even in summer. They bring back emotional memories for me because my nan always put flannelette sheets on our beds when we spent our winter school holidays with her.
Then DD collected me for a micro holiday. I am really getting into the micro holiday groove, they’re awesome.
We kicked off with fabulous yum cha at the Palace restaurant in the CBD, then we walked through The Rocks to Pier One, where DD was staying the night because he had a business dinner in Randwick last night and meeting in the city first thing this morning.

When he checked in there were complimentary cocktails in the lobby, thank you very much …

Then we braved the heatwave and sat outside to sip our drinks with a harbour view. I got very excited when my friends from Sydney Harbour Tall Ships cruised past and took lots of happy snaps.
All too soon it was time to head to Wynyard Station and catch a bus home to start preparing for another working week.
I really need to build some down time into next weekend …
Hope you didn’t swelter too much over the weekend and had some fun too.
