It’s a big day

The Court of Criminal Appeal is delivering its judgment this morning on Kathleen Folbigg’s application to have her conviction quashed.

Now 56, Kath spent 20 years in prison after being found guilty of killing her four children.

Earlier this year a landmark Special Commission of Inquiry found reasonable doubt over her guilt due to the emergence of new medical evidence.

It led to her being pardoned by the NSW attorney-general, however her conviction has remained.

This means her name isn’t fully cleared and there are still has many restrictions placed on her.

The conviction stands in the way of her making a new life for herself outside of prison.

So today is a very big day for the Justice for Kathleen Folbigg team and an even bigger one for Kath herself.

I feel too tense to say much else, other than to express my admiration for my friend Tracy Chapman and her unwavering fight for Kath.

Tracy will be there beside Kath today and I am so proud of her integrity and strength.

Tracy wanted me to be there too, but I feel such terrible nausea and panic at the thought of it – the trauma over what happened 10 years ago and its fallout still lingers.

I am ashamed of my anxiety when Kath has been through so much and Tracy has given so much.

It seems pathetic that I can’t do such a small thing when they have faced such big stuff.

But I will be with them in spirit.

Stay tuned …

  1. They had better quash the conviction. There is no other just path forwards. Power and strength to Kath and to everyone who fought for her.
