Jameson Irish Whiskey and fashion label Dickies have launched a collaboration called Crafted Together and I was invited to the launch party last night at a very cool bar called Earl’s Juke Joint in Newtown.
It was quite the scene, with Jameson cocktails, free Dickies/Jameson t-shirts, a DJ, live music and food by a famous bar called Continental Deli.

I got there early, grabbed a seat and started scoffing the nibbles. As is usually the case, I was the oldest person person in the room.
The place was heaving by the time my friend Sue joined me a few minutes later and we sipped highballs together while marvelling at the revelry.
Earl’s is a saloon-style space with a New Orleans vibe. It’s named after Earl Palmer, a New Orleans drummer credited with creating the backbeat for rock’n’roll.

It used to be a butcher shop and has preserved the original facade.
Here’s an official pic of how it looks like when there’s not a function on …

We left the party at the nana time of 7.30pm, which startled the young lass who was guarding the front door. I think she was struggling with the concept of abandoning an open bar so early in the proceedings.

But I’d had a lovely Old Fashioned that came in a can from Continental.
Novel! And yummy!
And also tried a fresh apple highball and I was done.
OK, maybe there was a ginger and lime highball in the mix too. But it was mostly fizzy drink in the tall glass, I promise.
The bartender pictured above was so nice and would make a point of asking what I wanted every time I was at the bar amid the mad scramble of people and orders.
We missed the live band that was playing later in the night. I reckon the place was going to keep going off, but 90 minutes of noisy fun was enough for us.
While I was a bit iffy about making the commute to Newtown, it was dead easy. I just jumped on a bus from my place, transferred to a train at Wynyard Station and was there in under 45 minutes. Same thing in reverse to get home.
Bloody love my new apartment location.

As for the Dickies collection, it’s dropping online today in Australia and New Zealand.
It includes signature pieces such as the Dickies Eisenhower Jacket (which I was seriously covetting) as well as overalls, beanies, caps and more. Some of the apparel features a new bespoke graphic paying homage to the original Jameson ‘Barrelman’ icon of the 1700s.
From what I saw from the pieces they’d given the influencers to wear it looks very cool. I am also having deep cravings for the flanno.
Head to the Jameson x Dickies landing page if it takes your fancy.
And that’s my socializing done for the week. Time to knuckle down.
