The readers at my current contracting gig love an inspirational quote, so I spend a lot of time searching around for ones that will tickle their fancy.
I still haven’t managed to top this one, which went through the roof the week before I started: “It’s OK if you fall apart sometimes … tacos fall apart and we still love them.”
I do love a soft taco …
I found a few inspirational quotes yesterday that resonated with me personally, if not being suitable for professional use.
Like …
“When you feel like giving up, just remember there are a lot of people you still have to prove wrong”
I don’t know who said that, but it speaks to me. In fact, it may be my secret motto. I’ve spent my whole life thinking I will effing prove people wrong. It’s a bit exhausting actually, I’m ready to retire from it.
I love this one by Oscar Wilde too: “Always forgive your enemies – nothing annoys them so much.”
I’m not terribly good at forgiving my enemies, but I definitely agree that it annoys them, so I should try it more often. I love annoying my enemies, getting under their skin is highly motivating.
Perhaps the quote that embodies my attitude to life while simultaneously causing the most trouble is by Robert Downey Jr: “Listen, smile, agree, and then do whatever the fuck you were doing to do anyway.”
I am a woman of VERY strong opinions and I have spent a lot of my life secretly – and sometimes not so secretly – disagreeing with people. It tends to get me into spots of bother, but I seem incapable of stopping. Must try harder:
Anyways, I’m running a bit short on appropriate inspirational quotes for my day job, so if you see anything that you think will speak to a woman over 40, send it my way.
Many thanks!
Oh and in other, actually important news … Ninety eminent scientists—including two Australian Nobel Laureates, medical practitioners, science leaders and prominent Australians—have signed a petition calling for Kathleen Folbigg’s immediate pardon and release from jail.
Speaking of proving people wrong – my friend Tracy had been fighting so hard for this for so long. She awes me. You might see her on the tellie about it today.
Song of the day: Peter Gabriel “Don’t give up”
I’d check out Beau Taplin for quotes.
E.g.
“She was unstoppable, not because she did not have failures or doubts, but because she continued on despite them”
Oooh thank you Merlin, I used one today!
lol I’ve spent my life disagreeing with people. curious to know how we would fare probably a bit of agreeing and disagreeing. as long as we kept it polite. i’m often saying, that we’ll have to agree to disagree.
i’m never going to go along with the masses. anyway i’m starting to be shown i was right with some things all those years ago. one point is, i couldn’t stand the ‘she runs like a girl’. finallly an ad on tv, saying that is inapprpriate. one among many .
I wish there could be more robust, polite discussions in this world. We seem to have lost the knack
