Well, that was freaky

The bizarre coincidences in my life spin me out. Yesterday I got hit with the freaky stick again.

My current custody arrangements mean I have the kids every Saturday and Husband has them every Sunday. Not conducive to weekends away. So when the Queen’s Birthday popped up I made the most of two days to myself and booked flights interstate to see a friend.

I’ve been going on food adventures with my friend for 22 years, but they’ve fallen by the wayside of late. So we made up for lost time by scoffing ourselves silly for 48 hours: Vietnamese beef noodle salad, grilled salmon with roast beetroot and walnut pesto, fish tacos, the most sensational baba ganoush and falafels …

My blissed out belly wobbled off the plane on Tuesday morning and who should I encounter as I walked through the airport? Husband.

What are the chances of THAT?

Husband was off to Tasmania for the week with his best mate Boris, who’s visiting from his adopted home in Switzerland. Boris and Husband were born on the same day in the same year and regard themselves as fraternal twins by different parents. They meet for mini-breaks every few years. I went on the last one to France, the time before they nipped off to the Phillippines (it was supposed to be India, but Husband arrived at the airport and discovered you need a visa for India … now that was a messy one …)

What are the chances of me flying into Sydney on a Jetstar flight at precisely the same time my ex and Boris are flying out of Sydney on a Jetstar flight? Not to mention actually running into each other in the terminal.

Husband was completely gobsmacked. I think he initially panicked that I was stalking him – he nervously asked if I was coming to Tassie too. Later he texted: “Well that was strange”.

Yes, yes it was.

Unfortunately, our freaky encounter totally destroyed the air of mystery I’d been cultivating about my getaway. I tried to remain elusive, but Boris insisted on knowing where I’d been.

Ah, well.

I’m feeling insanely relaxed after a child-free weekend out of town. I really need to do it more often.

Song of the day: New Order “Bizarre Love Triangle” (couldn’t think of any songs about coincidences – you?)
