When celebrities and alcohol (and Alana) meet …

I have no idea how people keep New Year’s resolutions like not drinking alcohol in January. It’s holiday mode month and there’s so much social stuff on …

Though I wish I had banned the booze on Sunday when I spent the afternoon (and a large slab of the evening) drinking rose at a friend’s house and made myself HORRIBLY ill.

I still shudder at the rather fresh memory of tossing and turning with savage sunburn, nausea and a thrashing headache all night.

I’m not the only one who has had a run-in with alcohol this week. Two celebs have gotten themselves into trouble with it too.

rocco-drinking

The first was Madonna, who posted a pic of her 13-year-old son Rocco Ritchie on Instagram holding a bottle of 94-proof Bombay Sapphire gin (above).

The singer, who has 989,000 followers, wrote: “The party has just begun! Bring it! 2014″

Madonna and her four kids are on holiday in Switzerland, where the drinking age is 16 … so it’s seems a little inappropriate.

Abbiesturm wrote: “I work in addictions and see tragedy daily. I care enough about even Madonnas child to speak my view that it is poor judgment to glorify substances to children.”

On the other hand, megamije wrote: “OMG! Who are you? Your grandmother? Let them just have a bit of fun on their holiday!”

rocco-champagne

Just a few days earlier, Rocco posted a pic of himself drinking what looked like a glass of champagne and captioned it: “Wriding to the new year”

Madonna has responded to concerns her actions might glorify alcohol to teens by saying: “No one was drinking we were just having fun! Calm down and get a sense of humor! Don’t start the year off with judgement!”

I’m wondering if Neil Patrick Harris decided to have a little fun with the Madonna controversy.

neil-patrick-harris-holiday

He’s on holidays and posted a pic on Instagram captioned: “Last day of our Mexico adventure. Let’s see just how many margaritas I can drink. Cheers!”

He then proceeded to post a series of hilariously inappropriate shots …

margarita-2

“Margarita #4: Feeling great. Can’t find my book…”

margarita-3

“Margarita #7: Yummy yum yum! Man, what’s in these things?!?”
margarita-4

“Margarita #12: I’s the life of the party!! Everybodyone is LOVING me!!”

margarita-5

“Margarita #17: Maaaybeee shud take break I shud maybeee. #ifoundahat”
margarita-6

“Margarita #19: ……hic!……”
margarita-7

“Margarita #W: I swinnin laps” (I’m starting to nervously laugh now)
margarita-last

“Magachita #3, 4 mebbe? : Bruuuglah dret scruh nuu rezzlooshun! Nigh nigh nowh. #annndblackout”

I’m also wondering … why is it the Madonna one seems terribly inappropriate (aside from it featuring teens) and the Neil Patrick Harris one cracks me up?

Aren’t both totally wrong on social media?

Your thoughts?

PS As for my own drinking … I wish I could take a leaf out of my sister’s book and ban the booze for January AND February (she’s amazing) … but I’m going on holidays on Friday. On a cruise ship. And I kind of fancy lounging on deck with a cocktail in hand … Maybe when I get back. Definitely when I get back … maybe …
