I am in gossip heaven this week. The Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes split is beyond fascinating. My favourite take on the situation is, of course, at Lainey Gossip. So I thought I’d share some of her hottest tidbits with you, as the frustration of being in Albury with Husband’s family (who are more the Four Corners crowd) and having no-one to yabber to is killing me.
* Tom was thinking of sending Suri to the Scientology Sea Org Gold Base in California to be tutored in all things culty because it was close enough to Los Angeles that Katie could pop in on visiting days.
* Tom has his eldest daughter, Bella, constantly (secretly) followed by Scientologists to make sure she’s not being “taken advantage of”.
* Katie’s rented a New York apartment for $12,500 a month. As soon as the lease was confirmed, she engaged her old PR team and a new lawyer, then cut off contact with Tom last Wednesday when it was done and dusted.
* Until Wednesday, Katie was still wearing her wedding ring in paparazzi photos: “You know what’s interesting about that? They’ve always said that Tom and his inner circle check pap photos when he’s away from her, just to make sure. On top of having staff surround her.” Ewwwww. That man so SO CREEPY.
* Katie’s timing was impeccable: “Tom Cruise is carrying three expensive studio movies and right now everyone already thinks he’s insane. Meanwhile his wife is starting a new life without him in New York, while everyone fist pumps their support, and he can’t leave the set to coax her back because he can’t delay production. Look who’s trapped now…” Loving!
* Lainey’s final word for the day (I’ll be checking back at 6am tomorrow for her overnight update): “She was swarmed by more paps than usual today. She’ll be surrounded by reporters and photographers day and night. It’s almost like accidental protection. Now that all the entertainment outlets and gossip blogs have accused the Church of following her, spying on her, everyone else will be spying on THEM to make sure they DON’T spy on HER.”

I’ve enjoyed Rupert Murdoch’s tweets most of all. I’m guessing it is all about the feud with the Packer empire as James Packer is a friend of Cruise. The news-hound in me wonders if there’s not a bit of Consolidated Media going on there too, as Murdoch will be fighting the regulators to let him acquire the majority of Foxtel, but by labeling the scientologists as creepy and evil, when Packer is a known church attendee, makes the acceptance of a “better known devil” that bit more acceptable in controlling the Australian media landscape.
Nah, Rupert hates Scientologists because they tried to recruit Lachlan. Those tweets are very funny though.
And who’s spying on Alana, as Alana spies on Lainey/the media as the media spies on Scientology who are spying on Katie – I am. Unlike most gossip (e.g. Folbigg gossip), Lainey’s info seems unusually likely to be true.
