You know you’ve booked too many cruises when Ponant asks you to be an ambassador at their information session.
I performed my duties at the Four Seasons Hotel last night – very posh – with DD by my side.
DD wasn’t initially asked to be an ambassador, but they made him one when I explained he was my partner and had been on all the same cruises as me.
I was a bit nervous about telling them that, as we like to take advantage of the Ponant “no solo supplement” as often as possible, so we get two adjoining cabins rather than being shoehorned into one.
I fretted that revealing we were partners would raise questions. But then I figured asking for the partitions to be removed between our balconies has probably given the game away already.
There was a special roped off area at the event for ambassadors, with our own waitress serving us oysters and Champagne.
Other than that, all we had to do was stand up and waved to the crowd when our names were called out during the presentation, and work the room discussing cruising with whoever wanted advice.
Discussing cruises is my super power, so I was very comfortable with the assignment.
Unfortunately, the first person who wanted advice was VERY prickly and snapped at me when I asked who he’d cruised with before … because that was private information.
It took ages to answer his questions about whether he could take seven suitcases on board and whether he needed a jacket for dinner. By then the finger food had been hoovered up by all the retirees/velociraptors in attendance.
I managed to grab a square of pork belly, two arancini balls and a few glasses of Champagne.
Poor me.
We also ran into some cruisers we’d met on previous journeys, who were very miffed that they hadn’t been asked to be ambassadors.
I am wondering if it was age related, as all the chosen ambassadors appeared to be under 60. Maybe it was a coincidence …
Anyhoo, I have no idea what my next cruise should be as I’m a bit worried about the war.
But there were some excellent deals on offer. Brace yourself, DD.
