As I walked downstairs yesterday morning I saw a shirtless, shoeless, helmetless bloke cycle up to the rear entrance of the apartment block.
He was juggling two mobile phones and a laptop and looked a bit … odd. I thought he was possibly mentally ill and obsessed with tech.
I avoided eye contact and decided to leave for work via the garage. As I walked up the street I saw him pedal away.
It was VERY weird.
It was only after I caught the bus and started processing what had happened that I thought … hang on, had he stolen all that stuff?
DD said I should have taken his photo just in case, but my initial reaction when I saw him at the entrance to my building was fear, as he looked a bit like Spud from Trainspotting 2, but a bit less healthy. So provoking him by snapping a photo didn’t occur to me.
I wonder now if I should have. I found the soggy laptop in the garden this morning. I have a sinking feeling that I should belatedly call the police.
In other odd news, Charlie the Oodle has been acting very strangely. I’m wondering if he has dementia. He keeps flinching and twitching, refuses to eat, growls a lot and insists on me constantly throwing a ball for him to chase. If I stop throwing the ball he barks at me until I do. It went on for hours last night.
I have a sinking feeling about that as well, in terms of another expensive vet bill being in my future.
In happier news, I made Recipe Tin Eats one-pot Hainanese chicken rice last night and it was dee-licious.

It’s really easy too, you just fry a little ginger and garlic in butter, toss in some long grain rice and stock, bring it to a simmer, place bone-in chicken thighs on top and put the lid on for 14 minutes. Then take the pot off the heat, rest it for 10 minutes and serve with cucumber, homemade ginger and shallot sauce and sambal oelek.
Soooooo good.
