It’s been a weekend of revealing moments for celebrities. From Susan Boyle’s surprise confession to Madonna’s awesome family photo bomb.
Susan Boyle’s Asperger’s confession
Susan Boyle, the church volunteer who became a global sensation when she sang “I Dreamed a Dream” on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, has revealed she has Asperger’s syndrome.
She told the Observer newspaper that she received the diagnosis about a year ago after seeing a specialist.
The singer, 52, who just released a Christmas album, “Home For Christmas”, has previously discussed having learning difficulties as a child, which she was told were the result of brain damage from oxygen deprivation at birth. She had a tough time at school and was bullied. She’s also had difficulties at times coping with the pressures of her new-found fame.
“I have always known that I have had an unfair label put upon me,” Boyle said. “Now I have a clearer understanding of what’s wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself.”
She added that her diagnosis would not make any difference to her life: “It’s just a condition that I have to live with and work through.”
But she hoped “people will treat me better because they will have a much greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do.”
Rocco’s all grown up
Madonna’s son Rocco has turned 13-year-old and he’s kindly providing the world with a glimpse at his teen life through his Instagram account.
For example, in the shot above he dances with his famous mum and appears to be taller than the Queen of Pop. He captioned it: “Photobomb much @madonna.”
Rocco also recently posted pics of himself with Sean Penn in Haiti. Sean invited Madonna to visit the troubled country in November, and he obviously tagged along.
Kelly’s morning sickness hell
During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show singer Kelly Clarkson has confessed she’s having a “miserable” first trimester of her pregnancy.
“I vomit a good dozen times a day its like bad. I vomited before coming out here,” she confessed. “I’m not even kidding, it’s so bad. It’s so bad. It’s, like, so gross. And that’s the thing too, you’re not attractive when you’re pregnant. Everybody tells you [that] you glow and your hair is pretty and your nails are pretty. That is total crap. My nails are short, my hair still falls out — it’s not all lush and beautiful — and I have no glow. Unless it’s, like, something left over from a bad throw up. It’s horrible.”
She also said she’s sick of other women who’ve been pregnant telling her they didn’t have bad morning sickness: “I want to, like, hit all of them with my car.”
“I had one day — it was either before Thanksgiving or the day after Thanksgiving, I can’t remember — I didn’t throw up one time that day. I literally cried to my sister and mom I was like, ‘It’s over.’ They said it would be abrupt and it would just end. Then the next day, nope, it just picked on right back up.
“It’s miserable. But I’m so happy I’m pregnant. I just wish he or she would stop trying to kill me.”
Christmas Glee style
Check out Lea Michele, Naya Rivera, and Chris Colfer in the Glee Christmas special. The trio wore elf costumes while earning extra cash as Santa helpers at a shopping mall in the hopes of being discovered by Broadway producers.
But when the mall’s Santa gets drunk, the gang distract the children with their rendition of Here Comes Santa Claus.
The 48-year-old Emmy winner has confirmed that Heather Morris, Amber Riley, Harry Shum Jr., Mark Salling, Dianna Agron, and Kristin Chenoweth will all appear in Glee’s 100th episode, which airs in the US on March 18.
‘Excited Heather is back for episode 100!’ Naya tweeted in excitement for her character’s past love interest.
Vin’s heartbroken words for Paul
Vin Diesel has written a heartbreaking Facebook post honoring his Fast & Furious costar Paul Walker, who died in a car crash last Saturday. His words have attracted more than five million likes. He wrote:
“When I heard, I immediately flew back to California, and went directly from the plane to his mother’s house… I thought they needed my strength, but realized when I got there and broke down before his family, that it was I who needed theirs. His mother hugged me and said I am so sorry… I said sorry? You’re the mother who lost a son?… She said yes, but you lost your other half…”
Listen in on Prince Harry’s call from the South Pole
Prince Harry’s South Pole expedition in support of the Walking Wounded charity is no longer a race, with teams now working together to complete what has been a more difficult trek than expected.
Three teams have been battling it out for the last five days, competing against one another in an effort to be the first to cover the 200 mile route, snaking through some of the world’s harshest terrain with temperatures that have plummeted to minus 30 degrees.
Harry’s team will now work with the other teams, one led by actor Dominic West (The Wire) and Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood). The teams are hoping to reach the South Pole by December 16.
Prince Harry isn’t letting the difficult conditions get him down, joking with soldiers in a telephone call. He called the four members of the Row2Recovery team in the Canary Islands ahead of their 3000-mile race across the Atlantic. (See the video below.)
“It’s minus 30 [Celsius] here, apparently it’s plus 30 where you are,” he said.
Skipper James Kayll told him that they were starting on Monday, but as he pointed out that rowing 3000 miles was “a little bit further than your walk,” Harry made a face. “Rowing 3000 miles is a hell of a lot easier than walking 300 kilometers, by the way,” he retorted.
